How to Stay Cool Without Breaking the Bank During this Heat Wave in Philadelphia

During this nasty heat wave in Philadelphia this week, I’ll write about how to stay Cool in Your Philadelphia Home with No Additional Costs.

Window Coverings:  This is easy to do.  During the day keep the drapes, shades and blinds inside the house closed.  This helps keep the sunlight from coming in.

When the Window A/C is running make sure your Doors are closed:  If you have a window A/C unit and it is meant to just cool that room, make sure the door to that room is closed.  If not the A/C unit will run non-stop to try to cool the entire house.

Close Vents and Doors in Unused Rooms:  This will stop the cool air from from central A/C going into a room no one is using, which will cause the A/C to run less thus saving you $$$.

Increase the Temperature When You Are at Work:  If you have a thermostat then this is an excellent way to save lots of money.  Try setting it to 77-80 degrees during the day, when you come home it will cool quickly to 71-73 degrees.
