Some Advantages of Buying a Pre-Owned Home

  • Less outdoor work to be done:  landscaping, patios and fences are complete.
  • Style and craftsmanship: they don’t make homes like they used to.  Hardwood floors, wood paneling, wood trim and 12 foot ceilings are expensive in a new construction houses.
  • Builder errors have been detected and resolved: no need to guess how an old home will age
  • Established neighborhoods:  schools, transportation, shopping and entertainment are already built. 
  • If house is dated, you can buy at a discount.

Some Disadvantages of Buying a Pre-Owned Home

  • Higher monthly utility costs:  Plumbing, heating, and cooling systems could be 20+ years old.  This means they are not energy efficient and they may need more maintenance.  Also, there may be a lack of insulation through the house.
  • Not enough bathrooms or electrical outlets
  • Make sure the established neighborhood is in a down-ward trend with crime and unemployment
